Disability rights activists resume protests

Four organisations working for disability rights re-started their protest on Wednesday, a member said. Hundreds of protestors were detained on Wednesday morning by the police.  According to S. Nambu Rajan, state general secretary, Tamil Nadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently Abled and Caregivers, protestors had come from across the State.

“We held protests for two days earlier this month, and after a meeting with the chief secretary, decided to wait until the Assembly sessions began. But our demands have not been taken into consideration in the Interim Budget,” he said.  “Around 3 p.m., we were all taken to a stadium in Egmore. They released us around 7 p.m. but we refused to leave and continued protesting,” he said, adding that around 500 members were still at the stadium.
